Bolt Action – Defenders of France Boxed Set

Bolt Action French – Defenders of France Boxed Set

Although much has been written of the German armoured forces and the defeat of the British at Dunkirk in the dark days of 1940, much too little has been written about the gallant stands made by the French army.

The French started World War II as the most powerful army in the world. Well equipped, with good tanks and artillery, the infantry divisions were numerous and confident of fighting off the hated Boche as they had been twenty two years before. This was not the same war and the French infantryman found himself all too often fighting off German armoured units which had outmanoeuvred them with ease.

Their weapons were adequate, but only just, and it was for the honour of France and their regiment that so many Frenchmen dug in and fought it out against a more scientific and deadly foe. By the time of the cease fire they had killed 27,000 Germans but had suffered appalling losses of nearly 100,000 dead and 250,000 wounded. It was a big price to pay and Frenchmen went on to fight against the Allies with Vichy France, ensuring admiration and loathing in equal measure.

Warlord Games’ tough infantry are equipped as a standard squad with command and support weapons attached…

Defenders of France contains:

Command: 1 Officer with pistol, 1 Sergeant with rifle, 1 Corporal with rifle grenade launcher and 2 soldiers with carbines

12 man section: Sergeant with rifle, Corporal with rifle, 2-man Hotchkiss LMG team, 7 riflemen and 1 soldiers with rifle grenade launchers

Bolt Action French – French Army 81mm medium mortar team

This pack is a great support choice, the Brandt 81mm mortar. Just prior to the war, the French army could field 2000 British 3”mortars, but it was of a metric calibre of 81mm. By the outbreak of war, French regiments could put out 9 x 60mm mortars and 8 x 81mm mortars, totalling 8000 in total. Mortars can put down short savage barrages that were justly feared by infantry on all sides. Gamers tip; one mortar is never enough….

Bolt Action French – French Army MMG team

The classic Hotchkiss medium machine gun had served France well in the Great war, and went on again, as did the Vickers in the British army to give solid reliable firepower to companies in defence and supporting fire on the advance. Rugged, slow firing but dependable , it was a good enough weapon for the Great war, but was showing its age, particularly against the German weaponry of 1940.

Bolt Action – French Renault R35 Tank

Designed in 1933 and produced from 1936, the Renault R35 was intended as a light infantry support tank, equipping autonomous tank battalions, that would be allocated to individual infantry divisions to assist them in executing offensive operations. It was relatively well-armoured but slow and lacking a good antitank-capacity, fitted with a short 37 mm gun.

At the outbreak of the war, the anti-tank role was more emphasized leading to the development and eventual production from April 1940 of a subtype with a more powerful longer gun, the Renault R40. It was planned to shift new production capacity to the manufacture of other, faster, types, but due to the defeat of France the R35/40 remained the most numerous French tank of the war, about 1685 vehicles having been produced in June 1940.

R35’s were also exported to Poland, Romania, Turkey and Yugoslavia. The Germans and their allies would also use captured vehicles.

Bolt Action – French Squad (10)

For all the glamour and so called ferocity of the German armoured troops, it was troops like these, the brave French infantryman who faced up to them and inflicted upwards of 140 000 casualties on the invading German columns in 1940.Their uniforms were dated , though practical, and indeed in 1939 it was deemed the strongest army in the world. The infantry division had 17000 men and 500 officers , made up of three regiments , a regiment composing 3000 men and 80 officers.

Each battalion was made up of 3 companies of four officers and 190 men,the company divided into a HQ section with a 60mm mortar and four platoons each of three sections, and a heavy weapons company of 4 officers and 190 men with 16 machine guns , two 25mm a/t guns and two 81mm mortars.

Riflemen were equipped broadly with the MAS 36 rifle, a sound and accurate design with a 5 round mag. Section support was given by the reliable if pedestrian FM24/29 light machine gun , the assistant gunner armed with pistol only. A few mAS38 sub machine guns were delivered late on as were a few Thompson guns , but all were uncommon.

These men dug in and fought hard against the German forces and stopped the Italians in their tracks, thousands of them evading capture and making it to England to carry on the battle for France. Many , it has to be said ,also fought against the British,Americans and Free French as the Vichy forces defended the French Empire fiercely from Allied designs.

The section comprises an NCO with rifle, 1 with VB launcher, 2-man LMG team and 6 riflemen

Bolt Action – Italian Army squad-ordered on demand

Bolt Action – Italian Infantry

The average Italian infantrymen were conscripts with little enthusiasm for Fascist expansionism. However, they found themselves fighting hard in many theatres of World War II, far from home, and in extreme climates.

The Italian Army’s equipment was somewhat outdated, if reliable, and the officer class were often careless with their men’s conditions. Despite all of this, the Italian infantry fought very hard at times, and when in prepared positions, famously difficult to oust.

The squad used fire and manoeuvre tactics with the Breda light machine gun being the section’s main firepower.

The M13/40 series was Italy’s most-produced tank of the war, it was a conventional light tank of the early war period, similar in capability to other Vickers-derived designs such as the Polish 7TP and Soviet T-26.

Having a 47mm long barrelled gun made it more than a match for the British tanks of 1940-41. In April 1941, at the time of the arrival of the Afrika Korps, the Italians had a good number of M13 in first-line service.

Bolt Action – Polish Army infantry section – 10 PER PACK (image displays 12)

The Polish infantry section was a powerful fighting force, comprising of up to 19 men. The riflemen were equipped with Mauser bolt-action rifles and the squad support weapon was the well proven Polish-made Browning automatic rifle, or RKM WZ.28. This machine gun was adequate for most of its roles but would be overpowered by the shattering rate of fire of German MG34’s.

The Polish infantryman of our period was well trained and highly motivated, attacked as he was on two fronts in a dastardly move by two of the world’s most aggressive powers.

Bolt Action – Polish Infantry Boxed Set-ordered on demand

Bolt Action Polish – Polish Infantry Boxed Set

The Polish army that fought and died so bravely in 1939 was large, well-officered and relatively well equipped. It fought hard, but was entirely outmanoeuvred by fast moving German armoured thrusts supported by all arms in a new dynamic style of war that a largely foot slogging army could not match. When the Russians stabbed them in the back, dividing Poland into two, it was all too much for an already over extended army short of armour and air support and the end was inevitable.

That being said there were many desperate actions fought where the Poles fought the invaders to a standstill, and the stolid infantry held their ground and their dashing cavalry caught the enemy napping.

This box contains 24 models with a classic rifle section and their accompanying Browning Automatic Rifle. To take control of the action we also include a command group with a young junior officer, NCO, runners and the Polish deadly anti-tank rifle.

Bolt Action – Puma Sd.Kfz 234/2 Armoured -ordered on demand

Bolt Action – Puma Sd.Kfz 234/2 Armoured Car

The Puma is, arguably, one of the best-looking armoured cars of WWII. A variant of the Sdkfz 234 it boasted a fully enclosed turret with a 5cm gun and thicker armour than other variants. Despite this additional armour the Puma was still capable of speeds greater than 50 miles per hour (that’s 85km) and saw use as a scout vehicle from 1943 onwards on both Eastern and Western fronts, as even the thickened armour didn’t offer much in the way of protection.

The fully enclosed turret of the Puma variant had a KwK 30 50mm gun.

Bolt Action – Soviet Infantry plastic box set

Bolt Action – Soviet Infantry plastic box set

These are the men who fought ferociously to defend Mother Russia from the German invasion of 1941 through to the fall of Berlin in 1945. Simple peasant soldiers, they were taught to obey orders and do as they were told. Their life was hard and their battles probably unequalled in history for scale and suffering.

The Russian divisions grew from a disorganised mass to a fully capable and experienced force of modern infantry in just a few short years, a deadly weapon tempered in the cauldron of battle against the German invaders.

“Quantity has a quality of its own” said Joseph Stalin, alluding to the huge numbers of men he could put into the field. Well-equipped with simple, solid weaponry the Soviet soldier was a terror in attack and the very devil in defence as the legendary sieges of Leningrad and Stalingrad hold in stark testimony.

This box gives you a platoon of grim Russian infantry with a variety of equipment and weaponry. Assemble your men, fix bayonets, look to your front and don’t let the Commissar see you lag behind…

Soviet Infantry contains:
Enough plastic components to make 40 Soviet Union infantry miniatures. Includes a host of options to allow for different weapon configurations and command models.

Weapons included:
Moisin Nagant rifle (scoped, with bayonet and without), PTRD Anti-tank rifle, submachine guns (PPS-43 , PPSh-41 and PPD-40), Moisin Nagant carbine, DT-28 light machine gun, Tokarev semi-automatic rifle (and bayonet version), pistols and captured Panzerfaust!

BRITISH JTFM BISHOP SELF PROPELLED GUN

One hundred Bishops were built by July 1942, and nearly all of them were used in the North African campaigns, although some continued in action in Sicily and in the first few weeks of the Italy campaign. It was replaced as soon as possible by the American built 105mm M7 Priest or the Canadian 25-pdr Sexton. As a design to meet an emergency, the Bishop served its purpose adequately at an important time of the war, but perhaps the Bishops most useful function was as an instructional vehicle to teach regiments the rudiments of self-propelled gun tactics.

BRITISH JTFM CENTAUR MK IV TANK

For most of World War II, British tank development remained faithful to the design philosophy inaugurated during World War I. Experiences in North Africa highlighted flaws in this basic design, however, and the General Staff identified the need for a new heavy cruiser that could combine speed and manoeuvrability with increased armour and armament. The Cromwell Cruiser tank was designed as a result and soon proved itself one of the fastest and most successful tanks deployed by the Allies during World War II. This book details the design and development of the Cromwell and its many variants, from its introduction at D-Day, through its many successes in the final year of World War II and beyond.

The Valentine III appeared in late 1941 and was one of the most produced versions of the entire series. The great improvement came with a completely redesigned turret, with a new internal mantlet and an enlarged turret basket, giving the much needed extra room to accommodate a loader to operate the gun, freeing the commander for other tasks. As a compensation for the added weight, the side armor was somewhat downgraded from 60 to 50 mm (2.36-1.97 in). The main gun was now a QF 2 pounder Mk.V.

Fireforge Games – Sergeants at Arms

Sergeants-at-Arms were first raised by Philippe II Augustus of France in 1911, during the Third Crusade, as a bodyguard against the Assassins. There were never many of them and they fought alongside the rest of the army as part of the royal familia. Richard I of England had 24 with him on the Crusades. They were formed into a 20 strong Corps of Sergeants-at-Arms by King Edward in1278,as a mounted close escort. In 1399 King Richard II limited the corps to 30 Sergeants, and King Charles II had 16. FRANCE JTFM CHAR LEGER MODELE R 35 TANK

The Renault R35 was developed as a light infantry tank in 1926 to replace the FT.17 of World War 1. It was armed with a low velocity 37mm cannon and a single machine gun for this purpose. Against the German Panzers of the day it didn’t stand a chance. Additionally the tank required it’s commander to act as it’s loader and gunner as well. This would cause the Commander to be constantly busy with the general running of the turret and he would have no time to actually command.

General Washington’s Army (2)

Author: Marko Zlatich
Illustrator: Bill Younghusband
About this book
For the early years of the American War of Independence, George Washington’s troops were clothed in a variety of uniforms from various sources. With the receipt in late 1778 of over 25,000 uniforms imported from France, much of the Continental army was uniformly clothed in blue or brown coats faced with red. This study by Marko Zlatich focuses on the systems used by state and Continental authorities to procure clothing materials from this point onwards, the quantities they obtained and the specifications of the uniforms themselves. Eight colour plates by the talented Bill Younghusband and a plethora of black and white photographs and illustrations usefully support the author’s detailed text. Men-at-Arms 273, 285, 289, 290 and 292 are also available in a single volume special edition as ‘Soldiers of the Revolutionary War’.

GERMAN FLAMMPANZER III

The Pzkpfw III (F1) are also know as the Panzerflammwagen III or bether know as the Flammpanzer III Ausf. M and it was a medium flamethrower tank. Atleast 100 vehicles are been built by converting Panzer III Ausf M tanks into flamethrower tanks between February 1943 and April 1943. The medium tanks used for the Flammpanzer are been built by MIAG in Braunsweig but converted by Wegmann in Kassel. The 5 cm KwK 39 gun was replace by an 14mm Flammenwerfer with an 150 cm long barrel and the ammunition storage become two fuel tanks wich each 510 litres fuel. The maximum range of the flame-thrower was 60m using ignited oil and 50m using cold oil. The range also depended on the weather conditions.

GERMAN JTFM STUGIV MIT SCHURZEN

Originally the German assault gun was designed as an infantry support weapon, but the changing conditions of the battlefields of the Second World War forced it to adapt to perform a number of different roles, most importantly as a tank destroyer, although the infantry support role was never wholly discarded. If the much-glamorised Panzer divisions were the sword of the German army then the assault gun and tank destroyer units were its shield. As the Panzers’ grip on the battlefield began to fail, though, it was left to the assault gun and tank destroyer crews to take up the burden.

Flammenwerfer! Infantry close range combat was always terrifying and deadly; it was deadlier still when flamethrowers were brought into play…Teams were carefully trained in their use. Most commonly formed from Engineer and Pioneer companies. They were brave men indeed as they had to close the range to perhaps 30 yards or less for their frightful weapons to take effect.

Mercifully, more often than not, the threat of the searing flame would bring about a surrender or flight from the enemy, but for those unwilling or unable to take flight, death would come hard.

Flamethrower teams therefore were priority targets for snipers, and certainly on the Russian front, the life of a captured flamethrower crew was measured in minutes, such was the horror they inflicted on their foe.

This set features the Warlord Games Figure Head System. This allows you to choose which heads to attach to your models allowing amazing variety and poseability.

This set contains a two man flame thrower team, a sniper and a spotter.

German Waffen SS Combat Engineers & Goliath-ordered on demand

Bolt Action – Waffen SS Combat Engineers & Goliath

The Goliath was used by the German engineer units in a variety of roles. It was essentially a radio contolled tracked bomb, carrying a big charge of high explosives direct to where it was needed, commonly a pillbox, minefield or disabled enemy tank. The controller steered the robot tank by using a wire connected to a simple contol box.

The Goliath was fairly successful and used on many fronts, and though slow and vulnerable to small arms fire would be a frightening sight as it waddled towards you with its deadly payload!

German Waffen SS-Sturmbataillon Charlemagne-ordered on demand

The Second World War saw many confusing contradictions as politics and ideals clashed in epic campaigns that were once thought inconceivable. One such oddity was the Charlemagne division, the 33. SS-Grenadier Division which fought ferociously for the German cause on the Russian front. They were unusual because they were French citizens who volunteered to join the Legion of French Volunteers against Bolshevism, later to be renamed the Charlemagne Division.

At full strength it consisted of over 11,000 men, all who decided to join the Nazi cause and crush Communism. They fought very well in many battles in Russia and Poland, often against appalling odds and, remarkably, actually broke into Berlin to defend their Führer with 350 remaining men (Unterscharführer Eugene Vaulot destroyed eight Soviet tanks with panzerfausts, earning a Knight’s Cross)!

The men of the Charlemagne Division, marked by their tricolor shoulder badge, were destroyed in Berlin and many met a grim end at the hands of vengeful Free French forces; an understandable but sad end to an elite fighting unit.

This boxed set contains 10 metal miniatures – armed to the teeth with assault rifles, submachine guns (the iconic MP40, looted Soviet PPSh and also the Italian Beretta that was in widespread use by German forces in the latter stages of the war). As you can see there are also panzefausts, an MG42 LMG tam and a sinister SS man with combat knife at the ready!

Each models is supplied with separate heads tp provide you with lots of variety in terms of headgear and posing.

Whilst these miniatures have been specifically sculpted to reflect the Charlemagne troops they can just as easily be painted as any SS unit; all you need to do is remove the tri-colour sleeve badge.

German Waffen-SS Infantry Boxed Set-ordered on demand

Germany’s armed forces in World War II were arguably the best-trained, equipped and motivated of all the major powers – understandably so in a nation geared to rearmament and aggression to its neighbours. Within these powerful forces emerged another force, the Waffen-SS, who were formed initially as armed bodyguards to Adolf Hitler himself, but later became a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

Tough, often lavishly equipped and politically indoctrinated, SS troops formed over 38 divisions and numerous other regimental and battalion-sized units, totaling nearly a million men under arms. Their armoured units won many plaudits for their actions, and although relationships between regular army units and the Waffen-SS were sometimes strained, most SS units fought courageously, sometimes ferociously, against great odds until the wars end in Berlin, 1945.

All models in the Waffen-SS boxed set come with separate heads. Each body type has several head variants available and every boxed set, blister pack or single model reinforcement will be have a random head attached to the base. All you need to do is clip it off and glue it into the locator hole in the models neck. Want your model looking the right? Or perhaps glancing down at his weapon? Perhaps he isn’t wearing a helmet or has a bandaged combat wound? Stacks of options are now open to you through the Figure Head system and we’ll be rolling the system out to future Bolt Action ranges…
The Bolt Action Waffen-SS Boxed Set contains:

• 6-man Command Squad: Officer, NCO with MP40 SMG, 2-man radio team with rifles, Medic and a rifleman

German Waffen-SS squad (1943-45)-ordered on demand

There are many examples of SS troops fighting well and within the bounds of what we can call ‘civilised war’, but too many incidents of brutality occured for most people’s tastes.

Warlord Games presents some of Germany’s toughest troops, eager to close with their enemies and put their training and equipment to the test…

Uncompromising and well-equipped, the soldiers of the Waffen-SS struck fear into the heart of many of their Allied opponents. Clad in their trademark camouflaged uniforms and displaying a tenacity and zeal bordering on the fanatical the Waffen-SS were a dangerous opponent in both attack and defence.

Contents:

2 random models with MP 40
2 random models with STG44
random 2-man MG42 LMG team
2 random riflemen
2 random riflemen with Panzerfausts

Magyar Steel Hungarian AFVs of World War Two

This book tells the story, for the first time in English, of Hungarian armour operations during World War II. Using both Hungarian-designed nd -built armoured vehicles and German ones, the Hungarian forces fought bravely on the Eastern Front against overwhelming odds. Their German “allies” were not always supportive or friendly! This is the story of Magyar Steel – a rarely documented aspect of World War Two tank warfare. It is illustrated with rare wartime photographs, plus colour photographs of the few surviving Hungarian AFVs of the period, and computer generated artwork showing camouflage and markings. It is essential reading for military historians, tank and AFV enthusiasts and scale modellers.

SOVIET JTFM BT 5 TANK

The BT-5 entered service in 1933 and, with gradual deliveries until 1935, equipped all armored cavalry brigades. The first active engagements came in Spain, in 1937, when a batch of 100 was shipped to the Republicans. They took part in the defense of Madrid. Some were captured later and saw service with the Nationalist Spanish state. Two brigades (6th and 11th Tank Brigade) were sent in the Far East, on the Sino-Russo-Mongolian border to face Japanese incursions of the time. They proved instrumental at Khalkin Gol, with many BT-7s, proving too fast for the Japanese AT teams and still deadly for any AVFs deployed. However, they proved vulnerable to “close quarter” Japanese teams armed with Molotov cocktails.

Not long after, they were deployed in eastern Poland. They also soldiered during the “Winter War” in Finland, proving ill-adapted for the task with their thin armor. Losses were appalling. Finnish troops used Molotov cocktails as well and quickly found a weak point where the engine was installed, prone to catch fire and explode when hit, as shown in reports. In 1941 there were still hundreds of BT-5s in service despite the type having been replaced by the BT-7. But hundreds were lost or abandoned, worn out, during the summer offensive, liquidating what was left of the model. Only the lack of spare parts prevented the use of surviving vehicles until later in the war.

SOVIET JTFM KV 1 TANK

Named after Klimenti Voroshilov, the People’s Commissar for Defence, the KVs proved a nasty surprise for German tank crews during the early days of Operation Barbarossa. Although slow, they were extremely heavily armoured. This volume examines the transition from multi-turreted tanks to heavy single-turret vehicles, consisting of the KV-1 and 2, and the increased favour given to the heavy single-turret after the Germans began to develop ammunition capable of penetrating even the thickest armour, whilst detailing the design, development and operational history of the Soviet Union’s monstrous KV series of tanks.

SOVIET JTFM SU152

According to its combat designation, the SU-152 could be either a heavy tank destroyer or a heavy assault gun, and indeed, in practice, it was discovered the 152 mm (5.98 in) muzzle velocity and the heavy high explosive rounds had surprising, unsuspected qualities against German armor. This was the origin of its popular nickname of “beast fighter” in reference to the German Tigers, Elefants and Panthers encountered at Kursk. Although, in practice, the 152 mm (5.98 in) round did not penetrate the thick armor of these tanks, the excessive shock of the explosion on impact was enough to jam a turret, gun mantlet, blast tracks or do other significant damage. Tests performed on captured Tiger tanks early in 1943 had shown that the SU-152 was able of “decapitating” them (blasting the turret off) at any range, with a good degree of reliability. At that time, this was the only Russian tank capable of doing so. The consequence of this was that the SU-152 operationally functioned within regular mobile artillery units, which could be used as ersatz heavy tank destroyer battalions on demand.

The SU-152 saw its combat debut in the summer of 1943 at the Battle of Kursk, where it was proven to be equally effective against German tanks and an excellent self-propelled gun. The most active units of SU-152s saw action during the second half of 1943 and early 1944, but their numbers steadily decreased as a result of combat losses, severe deterioration of the chassis, engine and transmission. This was because of a still relatively crude manufacturing quality, very intensive use and lack of maintenance. Also, its replacement by the ISU-152, more largely produced, accelerated the process. The last offensive where SU-152s were committed en masse (alongside ISU-152s) was during Operation Bagration in June 1944. A small number of SPGs managed to survive until the end of the war and served in the postwar years until 1954, when these were decommissioned, scrapped, and the remainder sold (to Syria and Egypt). Only four are still in existence today.

SOVIET JTFM SU76

As the first Soviet SPG, the SU-76 filled three roles in the Red Army, well served by its speed and low ground pressure, despite its vulnerability: light assault gun, mobile anti-tank weapon and mobile gun for indirect fire. In the first case the open compartment eased communications between ground troops and battlefield awareness. It had greater firepower compared to previous infantry tanks, and was hugely popular in its close support role. However, it needed to be well defended by infantry in an urban theater, since its open compartment made it highly vulnerable to grenades and improvises explosives like Molotov cocktails, not to mention the Panzerfaust. In indirect fire, the ZiS-3 had the best maximum elevation angle of any other comparable SPGs and could operate to a 17 km (10.5 mi) range. However, the 76.2 mm (3 in) rounds lacked explosive power compared to 152 mm (5.98 in) howitzers. It could fire a large variety of ammo, ranging from the usual armor-piercing rounds, hollow charge, high explosive, fragmentation, shrapnel and incendiary rounds. As a tank-hunter, the high velocity of the gun, reinforced by APCR ammunition, could easily destroy any German tank up to the Panther (shot in the flank of rear), but instructions were given to aim at the Tiger’s tracks or gun barrel. It was also well suited for ambushes, having a low profile easy to camouflage and low noise level. It was also fast in reverse if needed. Another advantage procured by the large tracks and low ground pressure was its ability to sneak out through swamps, as it showed during the Belarus liberation campaign in 1944.

SOVIET JTFM T34 76

The combat debut of the T-34 Model 1940 tank in the summer of 1941 revealed it to be unquestionably the finest tank design of its time. The revolutionary combination of thick, angled armour, heavy firepower and superb mobility placed it in a dass above its closest German contemporaries, the Panzer III and Panzer IV. This forced the Germans to begin a costly programme of up-gunning and up-armouring its tanks, and initiate the development of a new tank, the Panzer V Panther to serve as an antidote to the T-34. The appearance of the T-34 also forced the Germans to completely revamp their anti-tank arsenal because the existing 37mm PAK 36 and 50mm anti-tank guns were largely ineffective against the T-34 and KV tank . While the 88 mm AA gun could be used as a stopgap in limited circumstances, only the arrival of the PAK 40 75mm anti-tank gun could restore the balance.

USA JTFM M-22 LOCUST AIRBORNE TANK

Twelve of the tanks were landed using the giant Hamilcar glider during the Rhine crossing on March 24, 1945. The British airborne crossing of the Rhine river, called Operation Varsity, utilized over 50 large Hamilcar Gliders delivering airborne tanks and other equipment for the 6th Airborne Armored Reconnaissance Regiment, Royal Armored Corps, of the British forces. One Locust tank was allegedly credited with killing over 100 enemy soldiers.

USA JTFM M4 NORMANDY SHERMAN TANK

The M4 Sherman tank was the mainstay of the Western allies between 1942 and 1945. Fast and modern it was better than most of the tanks Britain had to offer. The American Chief of Staff claimed in November 1943 that it had been hailed widely as ‘the best tank on the battlefield today’.

USA JTFM PERSHING TANK

From the moment that the M4 Sherman had been matched against German Panther and Tiger tanks, the American tank crews had known that their vehicles were outclassed by the opposition. What was needed was a more powerful tank, more heavily armed and armored, that could take-on the powerful German panzers on a more equal footing. Although it took time to develop by the latter months of the war numbers of M26 Pershing tanks were reaching the frontline US armored units. Well armored and with a powerful 90mm gun the Pershing was a match for any tank in the German order of battle.
